behind the blog

how it all began

It wasn’t until one of my sons was diagnosed with autism and I hit rock bottom in a season of severe postpartum depression that I really started turning back to my roots.

I began simplifying everything — our food, our home, our routines. I started making my own tallow skincare, ditching toxic products, and cooking from scratch again like my granny used to. The more I slowed down, the more I healed. That’s when Her Country Roots was born — not just as a blog, but as a mission to help other mamas do the same.

Now, I spend my days homeschooling my boys, tending our home, and teaching women how to live well with less — with tallow in the pantry, sourdough on the counter, and Jesus at the center of it all.

About Me

hey, i’m kacie

I’m a wife, homeschooling mama of four (from toddler to teen), farm-raised Tennessee gal, and nurse-turned-homemaker with a heart for old-fashioned living.

I grew up on a family farm in my Tennessee, where we fed our baby deer from the bottle, gathered eggs barefoot, and learning the rhythms of the land. My pa taught me everything from animal care to how to read the skies before a storm rolled in. Those roots shaped me — and even now, they guide the way I raise my own family.

Honestly, it came from fear and burnout. After postpartum depression, health scares, and an autism diagnosis, I started questioning everything. I slowly shifted to natural products, real food, and toxin-free living — and now it’s just our normal. It’s not about doing it all — it’s about doing what you can, one step at a time.

Absolutely not. I tried the “miracle morning” stuff, and it left me exhausted. You don’t need early wakeups or color-coded planners — you need rhythms that fit your real life. Whether you rise at 6 a.m. or 9 a.m., it’s about being faithful with your time, not forcing someone else’s routine.

Simple systems, batch working, and trusting that done is better than perfect. I create when I can, repurpose content, and let my family see me doing work that honors the Lord. I’ve also learned to rest — God didn’t design us to be machines.

Yes. But I remind myself often: faithfulness over perfection. I reset, pray, and simplify. Some days are messy, but the Lord’s mercies are new every morning — and that’s enough.

I don’t balance — I prioritize. Some days I get a hot bath and quiet Bible time. Some days it’s cold coffee and survival mode. But even then, I remember: this is the life I prayed for. I anchor everything in rhythms, not rigid schedules, and that gives me space to breathe.
