Simple, Folk-Inspired Living

Scratch cooking, herbal remedies, fermented foods, DIY natural products (including tallow), and self-sufficiency — plus curated tools and natural goods for women who don’t buy into modern culture.

Hi, I’m Kacie

I’m a Tennessee native, nurse, holistic esthetician, and homeschool mama of four. I was raised on my family’s generational farm in Cherry Creek, where we lived by the seasons, planted by the moon, cooked from scratch, and made our own remedies.

Now I share traditional living for the modern home for women who don’t want to outsource their health, home, and common sense: recipes, fermented foods, herbal medicine, DIY natural skincare (including my tallow balms), seasonal living, and simple ways to become more self-sufficient. (And when I do offer something in the shop, it’s because it’s something I use in my own home… and I believe it’s worth buying once and using well).

A Simpler, More Self-Sufficient Life

This little corner of the internet (and soon.. YouTube) is for the women who feel it in their bones — that the old ways weren’t wrong. That there’s something deeply grounding about cooking from scratch, planting by the seasons, making your own remedies, and learning the skills that used to be passed down naturally. Here you’ll find traditional living for the modern home: cozy recipes, fermented foods, herbal medicine, DIY natural skincare (like my tallow balms), and simple tutorials that help you become more confident and capable at home.

If you’re tired of overpriced “wellness” trends, the consumerism craze, and a world dominated by big food, big agriculture, and big pharma, one that keeps you dependent on everything outside your home, you’re in the right place. My goal is to help you reclaim simplicity and build a life rooted in self-sufficiency, seasonal rhythms, and the kind of practical, grounded living our grandparents understood. I share guidance, inspiration, and real-world strategies to help you slow down, nourish your family, and thrive on your own terms.

“Stop outsourcing your home.”

“You don’t need a cabinet full of expensive products to be healthy, nourished, and cared for. You need real food, simple ingredients, and the confidence to make what you can with your own two hands.

A Few Things You Might Be Wondering

A little “get to know me” corner, plus answers to the questions I get most.

Start small. Smaller than you think.
Pick one thing that fits your season right now. One homemade meal a week. One simple swap. One skill you can learn without turning your whole life upside down. Traditional living is built slowly, and that’s part of what makes it so steady.

Yes, you can.
A lot of self-sufficiency happens in a kitchen, not on a farm. It’s learning how to feed your family well, keep a few basics on hand, and rely less on convenience and more on what you can do yourself.

Her Country Roots is for women drawn to simpler, more grounded living. Inspired by my upbringing on a Tennessee farm, it shares ancestral recipes, natural remedies, DIY skincare, and practical ways to create a rooted, meaningful home.

Start with one thing that feels doable.
A recipe. A simple remedy. A homemade staple. Something that makes your home feel a little steadier this week. You don’t have to do it all at once.

Yes.
I share traditional remedies and old-fashioned practices that have been used for generations. I’m also a nurse, so I care a lot about safety and common sense, and I’ll always encourage you to get medical help when it’s needed.

Yes.
Right now I make small-batch tallow balm with 100% grass-fed beef and natural ingredients, and I’ll be adding more products over time as I grow. Everything I sell is something I use in my own home.

It’s simple on purpose.
It’s made with grass-fed tallow and olive oil, whipped into a smooth balm that’s gentle, nourishing, and easy to use. It’s traditional skincare that works, without the complicated ingredients and the overwhelming perfume smell.

Because running a website costs real money.
Between hosting, tech, recipe testing, and all the behind-the-scenes tools it takes to keep this site going, it adds up fast. Ads and affiliate links help support the work I do here so I can keep sharing recipes, tutorials, and traditional living content for free. Please know that I only recommend products I truly believe in.
And if you ever click an affiliate link, it never costs you extra. It just helps support my little corner of the internet, and I truly appreciate it.

“The tallow balm is AMAZING!!! It’s sooo light and creamy. It actually smells good, not beefy like some of the others I’ve tried. Some of the others I’ve tried have felt heavy and left my skin looking/feeling oily and this hasn’t done that. It’s helping my sons eczema. I am so obsessed!!!”

“I’m so happy I took a chance & tried it myself. I use it for my face, my feet, razor burn, literally everything & it works! If you are on the fence about trying it, JUMP! Kacie is the absolute sweetest soul. She literally pours so much love into this product & it shows tremendously!

“I never heard of tallow until Kacie started making it & I will NEVER buy anything else again. I use it as my daily moisturizer and my skin has never felt or looked better. A little bit of this product goes a long way so it will last you for what seems like forever. I’m soooo happy I came across this
